100 Word Statement (draft)
Separating a space for efficiency in isolation
(118 words)
In being isolated
during the current pandemic, I found that it is important to attempt to
separate the different environments within my bedroom, where I work, sleep and
relax in this time. I first experimented with a façade wall to add more light
to this (image) east-facing wall which faces a hill, blocking the limited
natural light where my bed is placed, making it easier to get out of bed for a
productive day when this light is maximised. I then created a loft above this
area to elevate the bed for more light. This creates a cosy space for
relaxation underneath, leaving the rest of the open space for a bright studying
area, which I considered highly effective.
Week 7 Fusion360 Initials Model
In this tutorial I had some struggles making the sketch for the S in my initials (S I D) look reasonable, however, I managed it with many tangent curves. I then hit a wall with the shell tool as there seemed to be constant errors in the shape, which I was unable to fix by changing the thickness of the I in the middle of the shape, or by changing the S into something more simple and blocky.
This eventually worked to an extent, the more blocky S made me able to create a loft, but only with a very thin inside thickness. I was able to create a thickness of up to 0.3mm but any higher than that would create more errors which I found could not be fixed unless I made the S barely legible as an S.

I textured this model with blue glass at the bottom, and mahogany wood at the top, as well as black and white granite for the edge of the letters. I found that these letters combined well together for a modern look.

Week 8 materials experiment
This task in adding new materials to the cardboard model of my bedroom in Photoshop made me pay attention to important details such as the mood I aimed to portray in the room and how to achieve this through details such as shadows and light.
With this model, I wanted to create a cosy mood, which is how I like to feel when I am in my bedroom. I did this by using wood on the floors and walls to accompany the very warm light shining through the new facade wall I added.
I then attempted an exterior version in a warm-toned autumn forest to portray the room as a log cabin, representing my safe space where I feel cosy.

1:10 paper bedroom model
With this model I added a bow window to one of the walls, creating a platform for a possible cosy reading nook. I felt this made a great separated space to relax.
